Group Discussion

Group Discussion

GD is a discussion, but most students misconstrue it to be a debate.

A GD is a methodology used by an organization to evaluate whether the applicant has certain personality traits and/or skills that it desires in its employees.

In group discussion the group of candidates is given a topic or a situation, and given a few minutes to think about the same, and then asked to discuss the same among themselves for 15-20 minutes.

The personality traits the GD is trying to evaluate may include:

Verbal and Non Verbal skills (includes Communication and body language)
Self confidence
Team skills
Listening ability
Ability to present views systematically and logically
Time management skills
Assertiveness
Summarizing skills
Leadership Qualities

Tips:
Take initiative to start the discussion
Listen carefully and attentively
Put your points systematically, logically and effectively
Do not deviate from the topic
Be calm, natural and maintain your composure
Do not be aggressive, emotional or abusive
